Ready for a different experience? Then follow me to Freetown Christiania (Danish: Fristaden Christiania). This part of Copenhagen is a self-proclaimed autonomous neighbourhood of about 850 residents, covering 34 hectares (84 acres) in the borough of Christianshavn.
A town within a city, a rebel neighbourhood within a well-ordered society. Within this community are tiny houses, built by hand and with whatever materials are within reach. This results in wild, freeform, colorful and charming architecture.
The freethinking individuals who inhabit the area are a self governing community who refuse to pay taxes to the Danish government, run their own businesses and schools, live without cars on unpaved roads, build their own houses, restaurants, theatres and civil buildings and even have their own currency.

My name is Jesper. I´m a danish guy at 34 years and is born and raised in Copenhagen, where I also live. I love my city and love to share it with you. I´m passionate about the quirky side of Copenhagen and prefer to show authentic and unique places followed by local knowledge and insider information you won´t find in a guidebook. I have worked within many different fields from graphic design, tourism to cultural politics and have a masters in digital design and communication from the University of Copenhagen.
