About
What this is
The Vayable team is going to live off of its product as it builds it. We are going to open up pop-up offices first in Paris and New York to co-create our product, operations and network with the community at-large. We will be developing our product in a collaborative, open studio environment where people can drop-in, share ideas and contribute. If you think about it, the custom of working within the same walls, at the same desk with the same schedule day-after-day is antiquated and inherited from an post-industrial era in which productivity necessitated those habits. Today, technology enables us to be mobile. Getting outside of the box, both literally and figuratively, and among the people we serve is the best way we can imagine innovating and truly making a lasting impact on the world at a global scale.
During our time in each region, we’ll also be hosting Vayable Summits in which Vayable community members, the startup community and fellow wanderlusters will come together to dream, design and build the future of travel.
To keep our operating budget low, we’ll be crashing with friends and sharing lab space with other startups and artists. We will rely on the Vayable network to connect us with places to sleep and work, food, internet, mobile phones, and good people. Everything we do and book will be through our own platform.
A moveable feast
The modern definition of a moveable feast is something that can happen at any time that suits people. Hemingway popularized the phrase in his memoirs: "If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.“ This perfectly defines the platform we are building and our method of building it. It’s about coming together in a way that’s responsive and flexible. It’s about animating and humanizing existing customs. This is very much at the heart of Vayable.
Why we are doing this
Vayable’s mission is to enable entrepreneurship and cultural exchange by connecting people through experiences. In order to achieve this mission, we must live it and embody it. Joining our community, becoming our own users and creating a development environment in which we can co-create with the Vayable network is the best way we can think of to build a product that people truly love. When we’re using our own product and connecting in person with the strangers around the world using our product, we find we’re able to takes leaps in innovation that are not otherwise possible from sitting within the walls of our downtown San Francisco office. Our team, our product and our community are, in fact, a moveable feast. We are telling the world: Vayable is a product that comes to you.
We realized that our most important markets also happen to be emerging centers of innovation. Coming out of Silicon Valley, we’re deeply appreciative of the power of our local network and the tremendous impact it’s had on our success so far. We hope that by spending some meaningful time in these other innovation centers we can both contribute to and benefit from the networks there.
