A delightful food tour of Vientiane! Many travelers stop through the city for only a day, visit a couple temples, and eat at the same 3 restaurants that every other tourist visits.
I am here to help you experience the best of Laos' street food and local cafes that you would never otherwise find. After living in Laos for over three years, running the office of an international travel company, and eating my way through hundreds of bowls of noodles, I know exactly what to order and where!
Come on this tour and you will experience a LOT more than pad thai and banana pancakes. You'll try some typical Lao grilled snacks, the most popular local noodle joints, as well as some personal favorite spots which each serve their own specialty "cult dish." You'll also learn about some of the influences that Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese food have had on the capital's culinary scene.
As a bonus, if you join me in Vientiane, I'll also include an overview of my favorite secret spots to eat in Luang Prabang.
This itinerary will include 5 different spots where we'll sample some of Vientiane's most popular street snacks and Lao food. Washed down, of course, with the ubiquitous Beer Lao...! A produce market visit can be included in lieu of one of the food stops. We will tailor the tour according to the time & day of the week (some spots have limited schedules), and your personal preferences. Vegetarians welcome!!!!
All food is included, as are tuk-tuks (as needed) to get to/from the various places where we dine. We can also do the tour by bicycle if you prefer...AND I'll give you a $5 discount per person for using eco-friendly transportation.
Please note: all the places we visit will be restaurants and food stalls where I have personally eaten numerous times. While I am confident in the quality of the food, please be aware that these are local restaurants and food hygiene in Southeast Asia is not strictly regulated like it is in the US, Europe, etc.
I am an American who has been living and working throughout Asia since 2006. My journey started with a love of languages when I was in school, which led to studying Chinese in college, including stints studying abroad in Beijing & Hangzhou. I loved it so much that I eventually moved to Beijing to work in 2006. A year and a half later, I relocated to Ho Chi Minh City, where I was based as a tour leader for an Australian travel company. I led trips all over Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and China and was lucky enough to see many beautiful places! These days I am based in Vientiane, Laos, where I have been for about 3 years. I have worked extensively in the tourism industry throughout Asia, and currently am engaged in a mix of freelance work, travel writing, and helping out with some humanitarian development projects.
