Nightlife in Oslo
Norwegians like to go out, and Oslo has finally developed quite a diverse bar scene after years of trying. It is expensive to drink in Oslo, and a common custom is to have pre-parties (In Norwegian vorspiel, literally foreplay..) and then go out around midnight. The city is quite divided, and the hipster crowd around Youngstorget has little in common with the posher people at Solli Plass. Until they all meet at a random party and forget who´s who. Oslo is a small city, after all.

Best Bars
Internasjonalen: A classic on the main square Youngstorget. Great drinks, dancefloor upstairs and very busy in the weekends.
Mono: Another rock classic, famous for not letting Lady Gaga skip the line: At Mono you´re not better than anyone. Free/cheap concerts and a great backyard for the nicotine addicts.
Bar Boca: Possibly the best drinks in town. A tiny little bar at Grunerløkka where you are bound to start chatting with the other clients. Always full, always nice.
Fuglen: Competes with Bar Boca for the best drinks in town. Elegant Scandinavian decor, fabulous coffee, happy people.
Teddy´s: An institution, one of the few places with a jukebox left.
Best Clubs
Internasjonalen: Opens its dancefloor in the weekends, good music, drunk and happy dancers.
Blå: New York Times fell completely in love with this place, and there is no reason you shouldn´t too. Lovely backyard, great bar, and in the weekends their club scene and concerts are among Oslo´s best.
Taxi Takeway: Close to Blå is the scruffy Taxi Takeway, low key, fun and cheap.
Music
Blå: If you are in Oslo a Sunday, any Sunday, this is the place you want to be. Jazzy Frank Snort has played every Sunday the past nine years, and it´s impossible to leave Blå without a huge smile on your face, even if you do have to work in the morning. Get there before the line: around 20 or 21. In the summers, they will give a outdoor concert at around 17.
Rockefeller: One of the best music halls of Oslo, both international and Norwegian bookings. Also check their smaller venue, John Dee, for smaller artists who will be big in a couple of years.
Sentrum Scene.
Night Adventures
While bars in Oslo close at 3AM by law, there are always afterparties. Always. Make friends with almost anyone outside a bar at 3AM, and you will be invited somewhere. Or start your own.
